Kindle Fire Software Update 6.3 and Free Apps

In addition to the amazing Gold Box Deal of the Day for a $139 Kindle Fire, there is also a new software update for the Kindle Fire that adds some nice new features. This new version is 6.3 and you can check to see if it's been automatically installed on your device by following these steps: tap the Quick Settings icon, tap "More," then tap "Device." If your System Version is "Current version: 6.3," you are running the latest software. If you don't have it yet and want to manually install, you can download the update from here.

There is quite a long list of improvements that are listed, though they don't include some of the things we've most been hankering for, like text-to-speech or the ability to organize books in collections. But you do have the ability now to share passages from books, view information about the book from Shelfari (which is nice), and archive personal documents in the cloud for extra storage. There's a new format for reading within the Silk Browser, some adjustments have been made for viewing textbooks, and movie rentals now start as soon as you begin watching the video rather than when it begins download. To read more about these features, check out the full description here.

Though everything is free at the time of this posting, that can change at any time. Make sure you check the price before you purchase!
