Today's Book of the Day comes to us all the way from London-born author Helen Smith, who twists her beloved capital into a city bordering on anarchy. The Miracle Inspector, Lucas, is a paper-pushing government employee searching for special people to help the English government, while his wife is just that--a wife who holds no job. They must escape this fenced-in London in order to have a better life for themselves--quite simply, it's a tale that will make you think.

Description: Lucas and Angela, are a young, married couple in London. Their marriage is stale, even though they have not been married long. Lucas is the titular character, working for the government. Angela, however, is only a housewife; due to new laws, and with London shut off from the rest of the world it seems, she cannot leave her household without her husband's permission or without his protection. She cannot even take birth control without his permission, either. Older men are carted off if they are believed to be pedophiles, terrorists, or seditionists.
At the start, Angela is not happy, and everything Lucas does in order to make her feel better often turns awry, backfiring on him. Yet after the pair make plans to escape the barricaded capital, their world is turned far more upside down than they could possibly imagine.
Reviews: "Smith's writing style is a wordy melange, reciting one fact or thought and turning it back on the reader only words apart. She mixes sardonic wit that will make the reader recall an earlier line, causing a smile to drift across his or her face."
