I've wanted to feature Star Chart for a while because apps like that that supply instant information about the world around you are so amazing, but I've help off because the Fire doesn't have any GPS capabilities. Fortunately, there are two ways around this. For starters, you can always enter your latitude and longitude (a quick google search will cover you). Also, a new update gives you the ability to input your location. Both options make this well worth it for Fire users.

Using state of the art GPS technology, an accurate 3D universe, and all of the latest high tech functionality, Star Chart calculates--in real time--the current location of every star and planet visible from Earth and shows you precisely where they are. Even in broad daylight.
Want to know what that bright star is called? Point your device at it--you might just find out it's a planet. Want to know what the night sky looks like to people on the other side of the earth? Just point your device down. Want to know where your star sign is in the sky? Star Chart tells you all this and more.

This one is a very nice little puzzle game. Become a codebreaker and mark the code by guessing the color combinations. I love games like these!

Your objective is to guess the computer's randomly-chosen combination of colors in the correct sequence. Simply tap on an empty slot and pick the color you want to place down the peg. If you want to change your mind mid-selection, just tap on the ball with an "x" inside. The colors in this game are: yellow, blue, green, red, pink, orange, purple, and white.

This last app is neither cheap nor free, but I'm tossing it in as a bonus because it could definitely be a valuable one for art lovers out there. As anyone who has bought an art textbook could tell you, those things are expensive because there are a lot of costs involved in licensing images for use. But I'll add my own 2 cents and say that art is valuable for our understanding of the world and ourselves.

Art Authority's works are beautifully framed and hung on textured walls, accompanied by title, date and other details. Works are displayed chronologically, with previews of related items providing added context. You can learn about an artist's life and works, or travel beyond the bounds of a traditional museum and view and compare works in a full-screen slideshow or scrolling thumbnail display.
There are also period overviews, timelines and histories. From the earliest creative pieces to the latest modern and contemporary works, Art Authority provides a stunningly displayed, carefully selected, well organized view of the western art world. It's part world-class art museum, part academic reference library and part digital coffee-table book. It's also part magic. An art museum like no other!
